From Oct. 20 to 22, FNU Cross-Strait Cultural Development Collaborative Innovation Center and FNU Fujian-Taiwan Regions Research Center co-hosted two academic seminars in Fuzhou: “Cross-Strait Youth Cultural and Educational Exchanges and Cooperation under the New Circumstances” and “Putting Together and Compiling Cross-Strait Family Genealogy Records and the Cultural Exchanges among Clans”.
More than 60 experts and scholars of cross-strait academic circles from over 30 universities and research institutes, such as Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peking University, Tsinghua University, National Taiwan University, and Taiwan’s Mingchuan University, attended the seminar on “Cross-Strait Youth Cultural and Educational Exchanges and Cooperation under the New Circumstances”. Through keynote speeches and group discussions, scholars present from different perspectives explored fully how to promote in-depth exchanges and cooperation of cross-strait youth culture and education under the new historical situation in order to enable both sides of the Taiwan Straits to develop in a more integrated manner and to foster mental harmony among cross-strait young people.
Over 30 clan representatives from cross-strait Huang family, Chen family, Lin family, Wang family, Zhang family, Guo family and Cai family attended the seminar on “Putting Together Cross-Strait Family Genealogy Records and the Cultural Exchanges among Clans”. They had a thorough and extensive discussion about the issues of cross-strait family names cultural exchanges and putting together and compiling family genealogy records with scholars from Fujian Academy of Social Sciences, the Taiwan Affairs Office of Fujian Province, Fujian Provincial Library and Fujian Normal University. According to the delegates present, people from Fujian and Taiwan have belonged to a family since ancient times, having the same ancestors. Putting together family genealogy records among villages with the same family name and carrying out fellowship activities will enable people across the Taiwan Straits to have a real understanding about the same or different family names, blood relationship and humanistic appeal, to continue to deepen the clan fellowship and exchanges, and to jointly research and compile family genealogy records. This is a response to and practice of General Secretary Xi Jinping’s concept that people across the Taiwan Straits are a family. Clan representatives from the Huang family in Taiwan, the Lin family in Zhangzhou and in Fuzhou respectively presented precious genealogical information to the seminar hosts.
