The unveiling ceremony of the Research Institute of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era opened in the 10th meeting room in Qishan campus on the afternoon of November 1st. Lin Heping, secretary of FNU committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) attended the ceremony and delivered a speech. Pan Yuteng, deputy secretary of FNU committee of the CPC read the notice announcing the establishment of the Research Institute at the unveiling ceremony, chaired by Yang Yusheng, vice-president of FNU. Lin Heping, Li Jianping and Zheng Chuanfang jointly unveiled the plaque saying “FNU Research Institute of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era”. Prof. Li Jianping, ex-president of FNU, works as Dean of the Research Institute, and Prof. Zheng Chuanfang (standing), Prof. Pan Yuteng (executive), Prof. Lai Hairong, Prof. Zheng Jiajian, and Prof. Yang Yusheng work as deputy deans. In the meantime, eminent economists Prof. Wei Xinghua and Prof. Chen Zheng were hired to serve as consultants of the Research Institute.
In his speech, Lin Heping said that the political task of top priority for all Party members and all Chinese people at present and in the near future is to study, spread and implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and that as an important base of upholding Marxism in the south of China, FNU Research Institute is responsible for and capable of undertaking the sacred mission of studying and disseminating the spirit of the 19th National Congress and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.“The Research Institute will adhere to multidisciplinary collaborative innovation, lead in the development of FNU’s philosophy and social sciences and thus promote the overall level before developing into a high-starting-point and high-level one with all-out efforts of FNU”, Lin added.“Prof. Li Jianping and Prof. Zheng Chuanfang are both leading experts of the Marxism Theory Research and Construction Project with great academic attainments. Their being in charge of the Research Institute helps utilize our school’s advantages in disciplines and talents and bring together academic resources both inside and outside our school, thus enhancing the influence and academic status of Marxism theoretical research”, Lin emphasized.
Li Jianping said, “Setting up the Research Institute is a specific move to carry out the spirit of the 19th National Congress, which reflects FNU party committee’s consciousness of the need to maintain political integrity, think in big-picture terms, uphold the leadership core, and keep in alignment”. He believes that the Research Institute features high starting point, large scale and a wide range of disciplines, which fully embodies the discipline and talent advantages of FNU. “In the future,we should conscientiously study, deeply understand and accurately grasp the scientific connotations, the spiritual essence and practical requirements of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Also, we shall extensively carry out theoretical propaganda and social services both inside and outside our school, striving to play a positive role in spreading Xi JinpingThought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era. Taking full advantage of our wide range of disciplines, we shall conduct in-depth research, actively condense research directions with distinct features, undertake a large number of high level research projects and launch a lot of high level research results”, Li said.
Zheng Chuanfang said, “The 19th National Congress has established Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era as a long-term guide to action that the Party must adhere to, which is another major theoretical achievement of adapting Marxism to Chinese conditions and will exert profound influence on the development of the party and nation. As a member of the Research Institute, I will attach equal importance to both the theoretical research and decision-making consultation and make my due efforts for the construction and development of the Research Institute by spreading andgiving a good interpretation of the Party's innovation theory.”
It has been learned that the Research Institute will adhere to multidisciplinary collaborative innovation with Marxism as a guide and establish 11 research centers, giving a systematic study of Xi Jinping Thought in terms of economics, politics, society, culture, the construction of ecological civilization, the construction of the CPC, education, cross-strait relations, etc.. The Research Institute will be built into a new strategic think tank, incorporating theoretical research, decision-making consultation, personnel training and social services.
