2D organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites (OIHPs) show show great application potential in the fields of light-emitting diode, information anti-counterfeiting, security encryption, laser and X-ray detection due to their adjustable band gap, high luminescent stability and good solution processability. However, the thermal quenching and self-absorption of excitons caused by strong interaction between the inorganic metal ions lead to a low luminescence efficiency of 2D perovskites.

Recently, the researcher Lin Zhenghuan from College of Chemistry and Materials Science of Fujian Normal University (FNU), Prof. Ling Qidans Research Group, and Chen Xueyuans group from Fujian Institute of the Research on the Structure, Chinese Academy of Sciences, have increased the quantum yield of PACC from 6% to 200% by introducing guest metal ion Mn2 + into Cd-based perovskite (PACC). The experimental data prove that the doping of Mn2 + can not only induce the multi-exciton generation (MEG) process of perovskite and avoid the energy loss of inorganic excitons, but also promote the energy transfer of organic triplet excitons to inorganic excitons, thus realizing the ultra-efficient red emission of Cd2 +. The research findings, entitled Multiexciton generation from a 2D organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite with nearly 200% quantum yield of red phosphorescence, were published in the top academic journal, Advanced Materials. FNU is the first unit of the paper, with Wang Shuaiqi, doctoral student from College of Chemistry and Materials Science of FNU and Feng Shangwei, master student from FNU as co-first authors. Researcher Lin Zhenghuan, researcher Chen Xueyuan from Fujian Institute of the Research on the Structure, Chinese Academy of Sciences and senior experimentalist Li Renfu are the co-corresponding authors. During the study, Prof. Xia Zhiguo of South China University of Technology also offered his help.

The study was funded by such projects as General Project of National Natural Science Foundation of China and Joint Fund for the Promotion of Cross-Strait Scientific and Technological Cooperation of National Natural Science Foundation of China.
