The symposium, hosted by College of International Education of FNU and co-organized by the Institute for International Communication of Chinese Culture (IICCC) of Beijing Foreign Studies University, was held in the conference room of Soledad Building on December 16 and 17. FNU Vice President Chen Qinghua, Zhang Chaoyi, Dean of IICCC, and Zhang Xiping, President of the World Scholarly Association for the History of Chinese Language Teaching, addressed the opening ceremony. Nearly 80 teachers and students from more than 10 universities at home and abroad, including Peking University, Hong Kong Baptist University, the University of Macau, Kansai University (Japan), and the University of La Rochelle (France), attended the event.
At the symposium, Zhang Xiping, President of the World Scholarly Association for the History of Chinese Language Teaching and Distinguished Professor of Beijing Language and Culture University, Prof. Bertrand Bressan, famous French sinologist, first General Inspector of Chinese Language at the French Ministry of National Education, and Vice-President of the World Scholarly Association for the History of Chinese Language Teaching, Uchida Keiichi, Vice-President of the World Scholarly Association for the History of Chinese Language Teaching and Chairman of the Japanese Association for Chinese Language Certification, and Prof. Zhang Meilan, Doctoral Supervisor of Hong Kong Baptist University and Director of the World Scholarly Association for the History of Chinese Language Teaching, delivered a keynote speech respectively, entitled “Suggestions on Further Promoting International Research on the History of Chinese Language Education,” “Convergence of Orientalism and Oriental Studies in France in the 19th Century: Starting from the Chinese Characters Written by Victor Hugo,” “New Information on Beijing Official Languages,” and “Vaudescal’s Textbook for Chinese Language in the Late Qing Dynasty (Basic Learning of Chinese Language).” Chinese sinologists at home and abroad conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on such topics as progress and problems of literature collation in the history of Chinese language education, and studies and problems of monographs, characters, and countries in the history of Chinese language education.
