From Dec. 5th to 11th, Vice President of FNU Zheng Jiajian led the mainland compilation team of cross-strait co-compiled high school Chinese textbooks to Taiwan, and jointly held the fifth cross-strait Chinese teaching exchange seminar and the cross-strait co-compiled textbooks (Volume IV) release ceremony with the Taiwan compilation team.
During the exchange in Taiwan, the compilation teams successively held three on-site teaching observations and teaching seminars on cross-strait co-compiled textbooks in Daxi Senior High School of Taoyuan City, Taipei Catholic Daren Girls’ High School and Affiliated High School of Sun Yat-sen University in Kaohsiung. At the seminars, both teams selected three outstanding middle school teachers to teach the classic works representing traditional Chinese culture from the textbooks (Volumes I, II, III &IV), such as “On the Teacher”, “Romance of the Three Kingdoms: Zhuge Liang Borrowed Arrows by Taking Advantage of the East Wind”, “Tang Dynasty Tales: The Tale of the Curly-Bearded Guest”, “Preface to the Orchid Pavilion Poem Collections” and “Poems in Paintings”. The teachers from both sides of the Taiwan Strait competed against each other and learn from each other during the process. Frequent interactions between teachers and students created a harmonious and warm atmosphere.
In addition, the mainland compilation team also participated in the seminar on rhetoric in a broad sense and Chinese teaching, held at Kaohsiung Normal University. At the seminar, Prof. Sun Shaozhen from College of Chinese Language and Literature of FNU made a thematic report. Besides, more than 50 experts and scholars from cross-strait universities and middle schools conducted in-depth discussions on such topics as cross-strait Chinese teaching and cross-strait rhetoric, promoting cross-strait exchanges and cooperation in culture and education.
It is learned that since June 2014, firmly believing that people on both sides of the Taiwan Strait belong to one family and working together with Chinese Culture and Education Association in Taiwan, FNU has taken the lead in implementing the program for co-compiling cross-strait high school Chinese textbooks, and published in Taiwan such co-compiled high school textbooks as Chinese (from I to IV), Basic Teaching Materials for Chinese Culture and High School Selected Readings of Ancient Poems and Prose, which have been adopted in many middle schools in Taipei and Kaohsiung. The event aroused a great response on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and was covered by more than 10 cross-strait media, including CCTV, Xinhua News Agency, China National Radio, People's Daily, Fujian daily and Taiwan United Daily News.
